BEN HARBERT

Ce qu'a vu le Bordel d'Sud

This self-produced album by multi-instrumentalist Ben Harbert blends analog electronics, intimately-recorded cellos and guitars, generously-effected voice, and assorted looped and live percussion into compositions that, in spirit, fall
somewhere between Dylan’s basement tapes, IRCAM synth explorations, and Bartok’s Mikrokosmos.

Recorded at Harbert’s Chicago home with a handful of collaborators between 1998 and 2001, the 17 brief tracks that comprise Ce qu'a vu le Bordel d'Sud, are sonically adventurous without losing a sense of focus or personality. Good 21st century chamber music.
